Benedetta Torre

A young soprano from Genoa, she has been pursuing a brilliant international career for ten years. At the beginning of her career, she participated in the Riccardo Muti Opera Academy as Alice in Falstaff, immediately following her debut as Amelia in Simon Boccanegra for the opening of the season at the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa. Since 2016, she has made her debut in national and international theaters in roles such as Mimì in La bohème during the autumn season of the Ravenna Festival and later at the Teatro del Giglio, Adina in L'elisir d'amore at the Teatro Carlo Felice and in Erl and Glyndebourne, and Sacerdotessa in Aida at both the Salzburg Festival and the Arena di Verona under the direction of R. Muti. In 2018, at the Festival dei Due Mondi in Spoleto, she played Arianna in Silvia Colasanti's Minotauro and Marguerite in Honegger's dramatic oratorio Jeanne d'Arc au bûcher, alongside Marion Cotillard as Jeanne d'Arc.

Among her most recent productions, Mimì at the Teatro Comunale in Bologna, directed by G. Vick, Musetta at the San Carlo, directed by E. Dante, Giulietta in I Capuleti e i Montecchi at the Rome Opera House, conducted by D. Gatti, Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi at the Carlo Felice, Carolina in Il matrimonio segreto by Cimarosa at the Festival della Valle d'Itria, directed by P.L. Pizzi, Adina in L'elisir d'amore at La Scala, Bettina in Lo sposo di tre e marito di nessuna by Cherubini at the Teatro del Maggio, Micaëla in Carmen at the Regio Opera Festival in Turin, 7 Deaths of Maria Callas at the Liceu in Barcelona, Adalgisa in Norma at the Opéra national du Rhin and in Puccini's Trittico at La Monnaie in Brussels. Last season she made her debut in Nino Rota's opera Il cappello di paglia di Firenze at the Carlo Felice, as Medora in Il Corsaro at the Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari and as Marguerite in Gounod's Faust at the Massimo in Palermo. She sang as Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro at the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing.
In recent years, she has also established herself as a Mozart interpreter: she played Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro directed by G. Vick at the Rome Opera, in Strehler's historic production at La Scala and at the Teatro del Maggio directed by Theodor Guschlbauer, Despina in Così fan tutte at the Teatro del Maggio under the baton of both Z. Mehta and Á. Fischer, Rosina in La finta semplice at the Goldoni in Florence, Zerlina in Don Giovanni at the Teatro del Maggio, and Ilia in Idomeneo at the Carlo Felice. She continued to expand her Mozart repertoire and sang Tamiri in Re Pastore at the Teatro Nazionale in Rome. Alongside her opera career, she is very active in chamber and symphonic repertoire, performing with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra under the baton of R. Muti, I Solisti Veneti, the Orchestra della Toscana, and the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by Alain Altinoglu. She gave the recital Hommage à Fauré and sang Haydn's Missa in tempore belli for the opening of the concert season at the Teatro Carlo Felice. She made her debut in Rossini's Stabat Mater at the Auditorium in Milan with Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano conducted by E. Tjeknavorian.
She is proud to boast an ongoing and prestigious collaboration with her city's theater, the Carlo Felice. The history of this relationship began with Maria Boccanegra in 2015 and continued with Adina, Lauretta, Héro (Béatrice et Bénédict), Lia (Idomeneo), and Musetta, as well as numerous engagements in symphonic concerts. This professional collaboration was also recognized by the City of Genoa, which awarded her the “Talento di Genova” prize in 2023, on the recommendation of tenor Fabio Armiliato.
She began studying piano and singing in Genoa, perfecting her skills with soprano Barbara Frittoli. During her training years, she won the Youth Prize at the 5th Francesco Paolo Tosti International Singing Competition in 2012, after which she sang in concert in Tokyo and Osaka. She also received awards at the 6th Renata Tebaldi International Singing Competition and the 4th Portofino International Opera Competition. In 2018, she won the Silver Star at the Chigiana Prize.
