The dance of the sabres is first and foremost an orchestral piece of the finest workmanship, closely linked to the history of Armenian culture, and which is part of a ballet starring a young Armenian woman named Gayane, whose patriotic beliefs conflict with personal feelings. Music Director Emmanuel Tjeknavorian brings this and other dances from this ballet to the stage of the Milan Auditorium, enhancing the repertoire of his homeland, a true artistic forge of extreme charm, and makes them dialogue with Stravinsky's Firebird, de Falla's The Three-Cornered Hat and Zoltan Kodály's Concerto for orchestra.
