For a musician, musical practice is built upon attentive listening and constant dedication, and, as Robert Schumann himself wrote in his Rules for Musical Life, there is no end to learning. In chamber music, one element is essential: listening—to oneself and to others. It is a genre founded on a delicate, sometimes fragile and intimate balance among the different voices of an ensemble, where mutual understanding can be conveyed through nothing more than a glance or a gesture.

Chamber music is also an integral part of our history. The Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano is home to a number of chamber ensembles, often formed by our principal players: the “classic” String Quartet, the Brass Quintet (which evokes the rich tradition of Renaissance brass music), SoliCelli (a cello quartet), as well as more unusual combinations such as violin and accordion and harp and piano.

These ensembles offer audiences the opportunity to discover a more intimate dimension of music-making, where artistic dialogue and individual expression come together in a unique shared experience.
